WTF???? French Vogue Shoots Lara Stone in Blackface for This Month’s Supermodel Issue

um..ok...I get that French Vogue is all about controversy and "pushing the envelope" but this is taking it to a whole 'nother level. World renown photographer Steven Klein shot Dutch supermodel Lara Stone in blackface makeup for a spread styled by French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld. The magazine goes on and on about praising Lara for the "radical break with the wave of anorexic models" she represents however the chick is a size 4...am I the only one totally confused by that stupidity? They say that they love how she embraces her supposedly curvy figure (um....yeah...do these people know what curves look like?) instead of being worried about being "the fat one." LOL...im sorry...I just can't LOL...a size 4 being considered the fat model...LOL..I needed that laugh today.

Anyways, since the magazine included their one "fat" model..they decided to use...for a lack of a better word..."anorexic" models for the rest of the enire issue such as Kate Moss, Kristen McMenamy, Yasmin Le Bon, Eva Herzigova, Claudia Schiffer, Anna Selezneva, Diane Kruger, Constance Jabloski, and Eniko Mihalik. Oh and did I mention that all the models in the issue are white...no black or asians graced the pages, which unfortunately is nothing new but then to put Lara and her "fat" self in black face just add to the ridiculousness of this entire issue...Imma need them to just recall this crap and try again next month...

Andy Warhol Union Square

So today before work (here at Edge NY) I made a quick stop to Bond No. 9 here in Noho. I've seen the store numerous times and read about it in different fashion magazines but never really had enough time to stop in...until today. If you are not familiar with Bond No. 9 it is a New York based fragrance house that is best known for creating fragrances that pay homage to New York City and its neighborhoods. A little background:

Bond No. 9 (named after its flagship boutique at 9 Bond Street in NoHo) was the brainchild of French perfume expert, Laurice Rahme, a resident of New York for 25 years.Their line of scents includes Chinatown, Chelsea Flowers, Nuits De Noho & Coney Island. They currently have four stores in Manhattan and is sold exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue nationwide. In Canada it is sold exclusively at Kiss & Makeup and at Holt Renfrew. Internationally it is sold in Europe, the Middle East and parts of Asia. Bond No. 9 Fragrances are fairly expensive, all ranging over $100.

Anyways, the real reason why I stopped in today was to check out the Andy Warhol Collection. I have always had a lifelong love for art and it was even one of my two majors in college (the other was history)..so my curiosity got the better of me when I heard that they were designing the bottles to mimic Andy's paintings. I figured, pretty bottles inspired by paintings and perfume...how can you go wrong..right?

When I walked in to the flagship store for the first time I fell in love with it. It was so fabulous and chic and everywhere I looked was perfume...ahhhhhhh.....anyways I started sampling the three fragrances in the collection...Andy Warhol Success is a Job in New York

Andy Warhol Lexington Avenue

and my personal favorite..Andy Warhol Union Square (main pic). I liked the other two fragrances but they were not my cup of tea. I loved Union Square so much because it's the type of fragrance that I wear..strong, fruity, feminine..a la Chanel No. 5, Boucheron, White Diamonds, etc, etc. It's notes includes Lily of the valley, green stem, blue freesia, white birchwood, amber, and musk. I loved it so much that I wanted to purchase it right then and there but the $250 price tag put a stop to that dream real fast lol..That and the fact that the salesguy was a douche! After inquiring about the price (which he told be was $250 but which clearly says $205 on the website www.bondno9.com) he proceeded to ask me what do I know about Andy Warhol and then threw about 100 questions at me in less than 30 seconds. Who does that? And honestly most of the questions I didn't know the answers to...like where are all the places that he lived and other stupid stuff like that...he then scoffed at me at my ignorance. I was like "dude, I just want some damn perfume but not from yo condesending ass!" Now I'm gonna just buy it on ebay...Jerk...

What a week!

This was my first week at Edge and it was very interesting. I've been a model and a freelance Makeup Artist for over 5 years so its very difficult for me to "have a real job" even though I'm my own boss. Edge has very specific hours..Wed-Sat 12-8pm; Sun 12-7pm but I pretty much get there around 1pm- ish..I've also been extremely tired which is why I haven't blogged all week :-( but now I'm getting a little more adjusted to it and getting to bed earlier so I'm taking it all in strides. Oh, and I forgot! The people who own and run Edge also run The Market (www.themarketnyc.com). All the designers from Edge have been urging me to give it a try. They are open every Fri, Sat and Sun so I will be trying it out this Sunday to see how it goes...Fingers crossed!!!!

My first day at EdgeNY

Yesterday was my first day at EdgeNY and it was amazing. I got there about 2 hours before it opened so that I could set up my counter. I got to meet the other designers there and pick their brains throughout the day but the best part was that I had a few friends unexpectantly drop by. The first was Cheryl and Jason who took me to an amazing Mexican Restaurant for lunch/dinner. Then I met up with some other friends afterwards and went to the Art Bar (I love that run down hole in the wall lol) on 8th ave for a later dinner and drinks. All in all it was a quite fabulous day. This is what I wore on my first day (pic above was taken outside the Art Bar):

Dress: Express
Tights: DKNY
Shoes: Vintage (I wear them alot because they are SOOOO comfy)
